The New Year has already come and gone. Many people have made new resolutions and have already given up some have stuck with it and are going strong.
The people who have quit are waiting for 2018 to make that year the best one ever. But imagine if you would that you decide that there are still 11 1/2 months left in the year and you can decide to make 2017 your best year now and build on that momentum to make 2018 even greater crazy right.
I’m not talking about weight loss today even though you can use the principles to loose weight. Today I’m going to talk about how to market in 2017 betterand some principals that will never die.
Lets not fool around and get straight to the point
1. Find out what people want and give it to them
This principle I learned working at Walmart years ago. If someone comes in and asks you for chocolate ice cream and you take them to the chocolate chip cookies and say try this instead and started to talk to them for half an hour to buy chocolate chip cookies you would be wasting time.
It sounds silly but when you give people what they want your saving time for you and them and providing them with what they know they need.
Sometimes people don’t know exactly what they want they have an idea of what they want so it’s your job as a marketer to ask questions so you can find out if you have a solution for the client and if you don’t have a solution but know of one you should point them in the correct direction so that can build a trust for future business.
2. If what you have will help the person and they don’t buy you need to follow up.
It’s as the old saying goes the fortune is in the follow up, but how? Well look at huge companies they make commercials not only to attract new people who may not know about what they have to offer but to reinforce that they are still for the people who do know about them and to try to produce good memories of a time the person may have last used the product.
Now if the person has never used the product but needs it you need to make suggestions because at the time they herd your message it may have not been right. But if you remind them again and they say yeah I’ve been needing to do that glad you reminded me, they will be so happy for you doing so. That doesn’t mean you herass them to the point they don’t want anything to do with you.
You need to set a follow up plan in place and on the days your not giving them exact solutions still offer them something valuable until they are ready to take action. People will be greatful of you doing this.
3. After they get involved follow up with them and give them support.
This is very important because if someone has already purchased from you once than you want to keep that relationship strong. You also want to let them know your here to stay so they don’t get doubts in the months to follow this is especially important for someone who is selling a subscription based product such as Netflix, or Insurance keeping people in the loop helps them feel appreciated and thay feel more like a person instead of a number that you was trying to sale and when you have a new product with a better solution most people will be glad to purchase Apple Computers has mastered this with their products that are of high quality and that keep getting better at this time.
4. Always give more value than you expect to get back in return
To make this one simple if you want a nice campfire you have to provide valuable wood first you can’t expect the fire first and provide the wood later. Same with people there are so many options out there in the world so you need to show someone why your valuable first than you can expect to get a return latter on except when you do this with people sometimes it takes longer to build that value up so even if you think what your putting out isn’t making a difference you never know if the email you send today will be discovered 2 years from now and be the right thing at the right time.
That is why the more value you give everyday than the better chances people will find the solution they are looking for tomorrow. Think of it like posting fliers all over town if you put a flier up at one location and someone puts it up at one hundred who is going to be more successful? Right now your thinking the person who did 100 but what if I was to tell you that the person who did the one filer was during the super bowl commercial while millions of people was watching and the person who did the one hundred fliers was at the door of house holders.
So look at the quality of where your putting the message you want to share, that prongs is to our next point.
5. Know who your talking to
You need to know who your talking to I don’t care if your the greatest salesman in the world if your trying to sell a steak that is the best steak to someone who only eats veggies your dead in the water.
So figure out what your product is what need it solves than think of the people who would be most likely to use it.
Think of the places you would find this audience now go there give them value to help solve some problems and offer the total solution.
